road trip...

a few weeks ago joe and i went on a road trip to walnut creek ohio to check out amish country. a two and a half hour drive of pretty country side, a chance to be together and an excuse to get out of the city - we'll take it! here are some pictures...

we stopped at a lake just as we entered ohio.

joe showing he has a little bit of captain in him.

we stopped at breitenbach winery for a wine tasting, they had a sweet dandelion wine that was made from the dandelions in their field - pretty cool and very tasty!

fresh cheese made on site.

breitenbach vineyards.

stumbled onto an old church cemetery.

it might seem morbid but i think there is something so interesting and enchanting about old cemeteries. maybe it's the history there, the gravestones seem to provide a tangible connection to the past - it really makes me think about mortality.

plowing the fields.

peaceful countryside.

the horse and buggy parking area at the local market.

we went to heini's cheese chalet where you can watch them making cheese. unfortunately they weren't making it when we showed up but we got to sample all the different cheeses they offer - it was pretty cheesetastic!

and on our way out of town we passed the amish farmers market where we saw this sign on the side of the building. their market isn't open on wednesdays which of course happened to be the day we were there, so much to our dismay we couldn't find out what "corn hole" was to the amish. but it apparently is a hot ticket item because it's the only thing that is advertised, and in VERY large letters i might add.

it was a very nice trip:).
